DON'T SPEND TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES.
by Hairyhegoat inthese comments and the references to the old publications are a true find.
have a read of this and you will never become one of the jw's!.
don't associate with outsiders (non-jehovah's witnesses).

Logical Questions to Make Them Think?
by sweet pea inthis has no doubt been covered before and if anyone has any favourite threads on this subject perhaps they could post them here .
what are your best one liners/questions to make jw's think?.
i had a heated conversation with my mum this weekend and apart from mainly going round in circles (as is often the case with brainwashed cult members) one thing made her stop and i could see that she was having major trouble processing the logic.

Lining up to kiss the bride is not allowed. Watchtower Question from Readers.
by ThomasCovenant inmany, if not all, of the witness weddings i attended in the last few years had the 'tradition' of the bride and groom and members of the wedding party lined up to greet the guests into the reception room.. it was also a faily common practice to kiss the bride.
congratulations and thanks were exchanged.
the usual pleasantries, thanks for coming etc.. well here is a quote i just found from the watchtower 15th may 1952 page 319-320, questions from readers.

Surprised reaction
by truthseeker1969 inmy brother who attends meetings was at the hall when they were explaining the "generation" new lite.. he said he was stunned when a rumble went through the congo which he said sounded like "oh here we go again" and then laughing.. the brother sittig next to him said 'what next" and after the meeting a lot of people were mad that instead of leaving what they do not know they re-invented it.. elders were being surrounded by people asking them to explain it.. this happened a few weeks ago but there is also alot of anger at the "mentally diseased " comment made by the gb as people view it as an outright attack on family members.
i think i smell trouble.. he is not one who shuns and told the elders that until they show him where jesus said shun then he will continue to talk to me.. one elder told him that if he persists in talking to me then he could be brought before a committe to which he told him "it would be your funeral".
so me thinks they are truly in a panic!.

More on Saturday's drama: Endo-symbiotic theory mentioned not once but twice
by sir82 ini don't want to give a full synopsis of saturday's drama, for fear of inducing stupor among this thread's readers, but.... .
the drama deals with a jw family with 3 kids, 2 of whom are in various stages of rebellion against all things jw.. the older brother is one of the "rebels", while the younger brother is a thoroughly annoying piece of brown-nosing crapola, completely buying into the jw mindset.. anyways, the younger brother is asking the older brother about why he doesn't want to attend the family study any more.. the older kid's rambling answer touches on something along the lines of "i'm learning things in school about how life really came here.
it's not as simple as you think!".

I hate JW jargon!!! (Alternatives please!)
by VampireDCLXV inall of us who have any ties to the jws know that they have their own vernacular, their own slang.
sure, there are formal titles that we can't really get away from: pioneer, ministerial servant, elder, ______ overseer, governing body, the (watchtower) society, etc.
but there are plenty of other bits of parlance they use that i can do without.... for example:.

Hi, Newbie Here
by Iseenow inwell i have been lurking for the past couple of weeks and have finally decided to create an account.
just wanted to introduce myself and relate my life story in the borg, specifically from the past few weeks- which i think has been a lot easier than many on the board.
anyway, my mum began to study when i was 10 (2005) and since then has been babtized; she strongly believes it is the truth.

what was your "back burner?"
by stillin inwhen i was studying in the truth book i laid aside quite a few questions, feeling that i was learning something important, and that those "nagging questions" would be answered in due course.
most of those questions have gone unanswered because i was led along, like a stupid pig with a ring in his nose, by other pseudo-questions of, really, non-importance.
i've had problems with conforming, if that is the word, with "correct speak" in the organization, and it has been apparant to most of the people i've known over the years.
